Our Program Nature driven and outdoor focused Child led learning Flexible and Open ended Play Based approach
Daily Schedule
Opens at 8.00 am and closes at 4.30 pm.
Free flowing day with loose structure as follows:
8:00 The centre opens Free play/activity time such as self-help art, play dough, puzzles, blocks, dramatic play, books. They are free to explore, interact and create their own learning experiences with the support and guidance of friends and staff.
9:00-9:30 Tables are opened for children to sit and have snack.
9:30-11:30 As children naturally wind up their play and finish activities, we gradually clean up, use the washroom and transition to outside. We embark on neighborhood walks, visit local playgrounds, or spend time in our own outside play environment, with sand/water play, gardening, building with loose parts and materials and much more.
11:30-12:15 Lunch time is a community event with peers. Lunch is followed by transition to quiet time, involving visit to the washroom before a quiet self-directed reading time and nap.
2:00 The children are quietly woken and they assist in putting away any quiet rest time activities if they did not sleep, and they slowly head to the wash room. A gradual transition occurs to outside play on our deck.
3:30-4:30 The afternoon is filled with open-ended art and exploratory play, and an open table will be provided for children to eat snacks brought from home. In the colder months, they are brought back in at around 4.00 for table activities and books until picked up.
4:30 The centre closes
Our children also enjoy as a special addition to our regular routines: **Please note that some changes with our additional programming are in place during the COVID-19 Pandemic**
We have a regular inclusive circle with instruments, songs, movement and games. The children are introduced to and develop concepts such as rhythm and beat, memory skills, balance and spatial awareness while participating in a fun, upbeat circle time!
Every Friday, we have a NatureFriday program. This involves taking the children to local forested areas or sandy beaches to explore the natural beauty around us here in Victoria. We take the bus first thing and enjoy free exploratory adventures followed by our packed picnic lunches in the wilderness. We develop our responsibility as stewards of the earth and enjoy taking our natural curiosity outside the classroom to our surrounding areas.
